Stay needs a release
A stay is not just holding still. It also needs a release cue so the dog knows when the job is over. Reward in position, then release separately.
First practice set
- Ask for sit or down in a quiet spot.
- Pause for one breath.
- Return to the dog and reward in position.
- Say the release cue and invite movement.
- Reset before the dog self-releases.
Progress carefully
Change one thing at a time: duration, distance, or distraction. If the dog breaks, make the next rep shorter or easier.
Bokedex outputs are best treated as context for owner decisions. For health concerns,
safety concerns, panic, biting risk, or sudden behavior change, involve a veterinarian,
certified trainer, or qualified behavior professional.
